K-State volleyball looking for sweep of Mizzou
in K-State Sports by Rob Voelker 0

K-State volleyball didn’t pick up a win over Baylor on Saturday, but showed signs they’ll be a different team during the second half of the Big 12 season.  The Cats took the first set 25-18, before the Bears grabbed the next three including extra points in the fourth, 30-28.  K-State freshman right side hittter Kathleen Ludwig says the Cats were encouraged by the Baylor loss as they were certainly more locked in as a group against Baylor.

The Cats defeated Missouri for their first Big 12 win two weeks ago in Manhattan.  Wednesday night, K-State will meet the Tigers in Columbia.  Ludwig knows Mizzou will be lookin for some payback.  K-State volleyball squares off with Missouri Wednesday night at the Hearnes Center at 6:30 pm.  Coverage on KMAN live from Columbia begins at 6:00 with Brian Smoller.

K-State readies for Oklahoma
in K-State Sports by Rob Voelker 0

K-State football will face their biggest test of the season this Saturday against # 22 Oklahoma with a lot on the line.  The Cats sit at 5-3 overall and lead the Big 12 North by one game at 3-1.  K-State coach Bill Snyder says they need to take some steps forward this week, because they didn’t always improve against Colorado.

The biggest development for K-State over the last two weeks has been the sudden emergence of a pass rush.  The Cats sacked Texas A & M and Colorado quarterbacks a combined ten times, including Jeffrey Fitzgerald’s four sacks.  K-State coach Bill Snyder says they may be putting more heat on opposing QB’s, but Oklahoma is a different animal offensively.

The flu has seeming hit every walk of life this fall, and the K-State football team is no different.  Players such as Brandon Banks, Prizell Brown, and Jeffrey Fitzgerald felt the effects during a 20-6 win over Colorado.

K-State football and Oklahoma hit the field at 6:00 pm this Saturday night at Owen Field.  Powercat Gameday will kick off our coverage on KMAN at 2:00pm live from O’ Connell’s Irish Pub & Grille live from Norman, right across the field from the stadium.

The Sunflower Showdown on Saturday, November 7th between K-State and KU at Bill Snyder Family Stadium will be televised, but the Big 12 and its TV partners are waiting to announce a kickoff time and network.  The Cats and Jayhawks have three options, 11:30 am on Versus, 2:30 pm on ABC, and 7:00 pm on ABC.  The conference and TV outlets are exercising their second of three six-day windows this season to select matchups for that day.  The other two games in limbo on November 7th are Nebraska at Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State at Iowa State.  ABC will have its pick first for their two time slots, and then Versus will get the remaining game.  Fox Sports Net has announced it will show Central Florida at Texas at 11:00 am on the 7th.

K-State holds down Colorado, misses scoring opportunities
in K-State Sports by Rob Voelker 0

Daniel Thomas ran for 145 yards and a touchdown, and Emmanuel Lamur had two interceptions to lead Big 12 North-leading Kansas State to a 20-6 win over Colorado on Saturday.  Humbled by an early loss to Louisiana-Lafayette and a 66-14 beatdown by Texas Tech, Kansas State (5-3, 3-1) is alone atop the Big 12 North after impressive wins over Texas A & M and Colorado. The Wildcats forced four turnovers and held Colorado to 244 total yards for their first 3-1 start in the Big 12 since 2000, during coach Bill Snyder’s first tenure.  Colorado (2-5, 1-2) looked nothing like the team that traded big plays with Kansas last week, scoring on its first drive and doing little else to lose its 10th-straight road game. The Buffaloes are 2-17 away from Boulder in coach Dan Hawkins’ three-plus seasons.

Rivers throws 3 TD passes, Chargers bury Chiefs
in Professional Sports by Rob Voelker 0

Philip Rivers threw three touchdowns passes and LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 71 yards and helping the San Diego Chargers trounce the hapless Kansas City Chiefs 37-7 on Sunday.  Rivers was 18 for 30 for 268 yards and three TDs as the Chargers won their third in a row in Kansas City for the first time since 1981.  The Chiefs (1-6) had hoped a sloppy win over Washington the week before might provide some much-needed momentum. But they played miserably in just about every phase of the game, falling behind 20-0 in the first half.   Matt Cassel threw three interceptions and the Chargers scored their final touchdown when Jacob Hester blocked a punt at the 20, chased the ball into the end zone and fell on it.
