Burrton’s Alex Santiago put himself in the record books at the 1A State Tournament on Tuesday night in Hays. He scored 53 points, breaking previous state tournament scoring record of former K-Stater Josh Reid of Brewster, who had 47 in 1996. Santiago went 17-of-32 from the field, 6-of-13 from behind the arc, and 13-of-14 from the free throw line. The girls record is also 53 points, set by Jackie Stiles during her freshman year at Claflin. Santiago, the state’s leading scorer at 27.8 points per game, couldn’t help his team earn a victory as defending 1A champ Hanover beat Burrton 85-66. The Wildcats will meet TVL rival B&B in the 1A semis on Friday night. The Falcons defeated Tribune 50-46 on Wednesday night.
